Advent Calendar

So our cherub is completely obsessed with Lego and for the last two years has been the excited recipient of a City Lego Advent Calendar and a Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar. Personally as a parent I love them, no sugar, no fuss and at least they get something that they can play with for years afterwards, but what I wasn’t thrilled with was the fact that although he got some cool figurines the rest were just sort of little bits………so this year I thought I’d make my own calendar for him (I should note here that when he heard about this we had a protest as he “wanted” Lego – it was pointed out that he was exceedingly fortunate to be receiving anything so he should learn to be grateful – however after opening day 1 last week he was more than happy). What I did was get one larger Lego set and split it up into pieces/sections and with the addition of printing out the specific page(s) for each assembly and including that in the appropriate bag so far things are going well……..I was very fortunate and got the Lego set really cheap on EBay as it was brand new but had the box missing – perfect for what I wanted to do with it though.

Anyway the bags were small plain brown bags that I decorated with some left over designer paper, punched pieces that I had laying around (I have a box of stamped and then not used bits and pieces) I was in use things up mode hence why it doesn’t all colour co-ordinate………..and several images are from retired stamp sets……

The two main number sets I used are current though – the Morning Post Numbers and the Typeset Alphabet Bigz.

IMG_5975-2You can see how eclectic the colours and designs are – this wouldn’t get any artisan awards, but our cherub is loving it and is getting super excited about Christmas and is more than happy for Mum to do the Advent Calendar again next year as it’s way better than the store bought ones!!
