It’s been a big month emotionally for our household for a number of reasons, one event I would like to share the creative aspect of it with you here. This week I had to say good bye to a friend who was an inspiring lady after she lost a 5 year battle with leukaemia. She leaves behind her husband, young children, extended family, friends and more notably a legacy of being grateful and celebrating the everyday events of life with everyone that she encountered. She was always happy, positive, friendly and inclusive of everyone in everything she did, from playgroup where we first met, to school, P&C, work and social events, her loss is going to leave a void in a lot of peoples lives in many different ways as we all remember her for different things, but the one thing we are all grateful for is having spent time with her as she genuinely brought out the best in everyone.
To help celebrate her life I was asked to make some memorial seed packets containing sunflower seeds. I knew that we were talking about +200 packets here and that they needed to be customised with the appropriate name, dates and message so I instantly thought of My Digital Studio (MDS). There is a free 30 day trial for the program, but I have the full version which was a bargain at $24.95 and a godsend for this type of project. Now this digital design program and I are still coming to terms with each other and my work with it to date has been more functional than finesse, but with the help of the MDS support site I sat down on Sunday evening and came up with a few ideas and this was the result that the family were happy with.
Michelle’s favourite colour was purple, she also loved butterflies & elephants – I think I managed to incorporate all of those elements. The design was printed onto Whisper White card stock, layered onto Elegant Eggplant and then onto the white seed packet envelope, fortunately another friend helped with the assembly process of the envelopes. The back of the envelope was sealed with a full heart punch containing another MDS print out of a sentiment and little elephant, but this one I faux layered onto the Elegant Eggplant.
The images used were from Garden Whimsy, Together Forever, Simple Friendship & Baby Steps. I can see me doing these type of items for other events e.g. Christenings, weddings or fundraisers, so even in death she has inspired me to push past my hesitations and procrastinations in using MDS and opened up opportunities to share this type of project with others. Michelle was an amazing lady who I felt very privileged to have spent time with over the last 6 years, in Spring I will plant some of the sunflower seeds in out garden and I plan to post pictures of the sunflowers blooming later this year.

I thought I would share with you some of the many wonderful swaps that I received from some amazingly talented demonstrators from across Australasia. Although I managed to do all the fussy cutting of the leaves & flowers whilst watching cherub at swimming lessons, I was only able to finish my swaps thanks to the help of 4 lovely ladies at my Crafternoon Tea group who spent 20 minutes layering the tags and trimming the corners for me, I got the faux stitching and flowers/leaves attached during my 4 hour plane flight and then a few wonderful people on the first morning of Convention interrupted their coffees to help me finish them.
Huge thanks to the wonderfully creative Gavin, Monique & Debbie – we attracted some interest from passersby and waitstaff, but they took it in their stride and kept sticking things for me! My swaps were a tag, which could be used as a bookmark or mounted onto a card front. They were also packaged a leaf adorned with a sentiment and a chocolate lady bird.
Anyway with everyone’s assistance I managed to get 42 swaps completed (then when I came home I made 4 more for the ladies at Crafternoon who had helped me out the week before). Here are a couple of items I received back, a lovely card made with Summer Silhouettes by Angela Hobson.
A cute punch art elephant by Pat Carr – his nose reminds me of the firelighters we used to make from newspaper al la Blue Peter in the 70s also featuring the terrific (but retiring) Simply Stars.
The next was all the way from New Zealand & created by Anna Mathieson, featuring a stamp from the Hip, Hip Hooray kit, banner framelits and the starburst framelits that are both in the current Occasions catalogue, but will both carry over to the next Annual Catalogue (yay).
Last for this batch is a card made by Vicki Collier using my favourite stamp set Gorgeous Grunge and Peachy Keen also in the current Occasions catalogue.
I will photograph and blog more swaps soon – in the mean time if you are looking for a bargain don’t forget to check the Clearance Rack, Weekly Deals and the Retirement Lists as there are lots of things vanishing from these lists and once they have gone – well they’ve gone!
Come along for a wonderful afternoon/evening full of fun and creativity. Get a new Annual Catalogue, be inspired by displays, participate in some make ‘n takes, see new products being demonstrated, enjoy a yummy afternoon tea/supper, go in the draw for door prizes, have lots of fun & more!

PROJECT LIFE Q&A
Q. How does it work?
A. It couldn’t be simpler: slip photos, mementos, and journaling into an album with Photo Pocket Pages. That alone will give you fabulous results (no scissors or glue required!); if you want to do more you can embellish your photos or cards with Project Life accessory packs or stamps. Stampin’ Up! accessory packs are designed to coordinate perfectly with the card collections which makes stepping things up super simple.
Q. Who’s it for?
A. We’ve all heard people say scrapbooking takes too much time. You’ve probably had that thought yourself a time or two. That’s why Project Life works so well for all of us. It’s quick and easy and has a fresh approach. And for those who don’t do simple, you can embellish to your heart’s content. So in a nutshell, Project Life is for everyone-the scrapbookologists, the timid, and the skeptical.
Q. How often will products be released?
A. We will offer a complete line of Project Life products in our annual catalog. You may see other products released in seasonal catalogs or at other times throughout the year. We will also release digital Project Life products regularly.
Q: Will Stampin’ Up! be offering albums as part of the Project Life product line?
A: Yes, Stampin’ Up! will offer albums as part of the product line as they are a key component to this type of memory keeping system, they should be available soon.
Q. What are the label sheets in the card packs for? A. You can use the first sheet to label the box (just wrap it around the box base). You can use the second sheet to label the top lid, which works great if you’re going to store it in a drawer.
Q. Is the radius of the Project Life Corner Punch the same as the Becky Higgins’ Project Life rounded corners? A. Yes
Q. Why is there extra space in the card collection boxes?
A. They serve as a storage solution for adding photos or other Project Life items you want to keep organized.
Q. Why aren’t the corners of the cards rounded like traditional Project Life cards? A. Stampin’ Up! wanted to provide you with versatility; through focus groups we learned that people like the option of square or rounded corners. The corner punch allows you to choose either square or rounded corners or even to mix and match! For the fastest option, pair square cards with square corner photos so they match up perfectly.

With all of my Convention excitement, pre-order for demonstrators with the new catalogue, retirement lists, clearance rack updates & weekly deals I’ve been very neglectful of posting pictures of some of the weekly class items we have been creating of late! If you ever want to get some creative time in you are very welcome to join us for Crafternoon each week.
This card was made using the soon retiring Clockworks stamp set & the current sets Teeny Tiny Sentiments, Perfect Pennants & Gorgeous Grunge. The designer series paper is Soho Subway & the file tab was made using the ever versatile envelope punch board. The ink colours are Summer Starfruit, Island Indigo & Early Expresso.
The second card (we made 4 masculine cards in this class) was using the stamp set By The Tide which is carrying over to the new Annual Catalogue (yay) and featured the coral image in gold embossing powder on the Crumb Cake card stock and the retiring tasteful trim border in Midnight Muse.
Of course if you can’t come along to classes on Tuesday afternoon, you are more than welcome to do the class at Pizza & Papercrafting held once a month or get 4 friend together and I can come and do it as a class for you at your house!
This week there is another set of great deals for you – with discounts of 25% off select punches, dies and framelits and 40% discount off a versatile digital download. If you want to order any or all of these great items, you can do so by ordering direct online here or by contacting me before noon on Tuesday June 3rd and I can place the order for you.
