Angel from Bow Die

So I made up several kits to make these cute little angel ornaments for a class before Christmas with a great group of ladies from a local church group. The bow die didn’t really grab my attention very much when I first saw it in the catalogue, but then I saw lots of different things made with it (other than bows of course) and now I am so glad I bought it. It is in the current Holiday catalogue which finishes at the end of this month – so if you were debating the purchase of this one purchasing it sooner rather than later might be a good idea as we haven’t been told if it is going to carry over into the next main catalogue yet or not (fingers crossed it does as it also makes a super cute Santa that I ran out of time to add to my class list so hoping I can add it to one in July as a Christmas in July theme).

They are quite easy to make, I use Tombow glue to stick them all together as I find that works well for all the different papers used.

Here is a picture of all the different elements I used. The champagne glimmer paper was punches using the 1 3/8″ circle punch, then over punched with the 1 3/4″ circle punch for the halo. The small circle was from the bitty punches triple pack and the small 7/8″ scallop punch was the last piece in that paper.

The white circles are 1 1/4″ and the arms from a word window punch. The lace underskirt was a third of a tea lace doily and a 20cm piece of white Bakers twine to suspend them. I chose to emboss the Whisper White bow die pieces with the Beautifully Baroque embossing folder.

IMG_6016-2

Overlap and join the two fish tail pieces of the bow die.

IMG_6019-2

Add on one of the Whisper White circles and the tea lace doily.

IMG_6021-2

Flip the project over and add the halo to the white circle as per below.

IMG_6022-2

Then sandwich it with the other white circle punch to secure the halo in place. Add the twine sandwiched between the halo and the small glimmer paper circle over the top to hold it securely.

IMG_6023-2

Turn the project back over and slightly curl the bow pieces with your fingers first before glueing the ends together, this breaks some of the paper fibres and prevents them from cracking. Glue them into place just below the face circle.

IMG_6024-2

Add the 7/8″ scallop circle of glimmer paper to cover the centre of the bow wings. Cut the word window punch in half and add to the wings for the arms.

IMG_6025-2

Hand draw in the facial features of the angel and you’re done!

I’d love to see your version of this lovely paper angel.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2014!!! What a FULL 2013 I had in my personal life, work life and also my Stampin’ Up! business. I had a very fortunate yet exceedingly challenging year, but am looking forward to a wonderful new year in which to do lots of new things.

I didn’t get to send as many Christmas cards out as I wanted to this year, but more than I sent the previous year, so yay me – I’m celebrating the positive rather than focusing on my shortcomings. So I decided to make some New Year cards to send out as well to some of those that I didn’t get to send Christmas cards to. Unfortunately our cherub decided to gift us with a nasty summer cold so my head has felt like cotton wool for a few days and my mojo has been scooting along at almost zero – but fortunately I saw a lovely card on a UK demonstrators blog here that I CASEd, I changed the stamp sets and dies, but yay I made some cards.

IMG_6130-2

The new year and hello sentiments were done using markers to rubber as I didn’t want the entire sentiment. The arrow was hand cut and glued on using Tombow which I find best for sticking small pieces of card stock together.

Stamps: Simply Stars, Oh Hello, Clockworks, Wishing You & Hello Lovely

Ink: Midnight muse, Crushed Curry, Raspberry Ripple & Coastal Cabana

Card stock: Whisper White & Midnight Muse

Accessories: Typeset Alphabet, Tombow glue.

Envelope Punch Board Camera

We’ve been invited to a friends 70th this afternoon and he is an amazing marine photographer, in fact for over half his life he has been the photographer for the Western Australian Museum, you can see some of his still photos here or here. His talents also reach to underwater videography for recreation and documentaries for work and building his own re-breather unit so his scuba bubbles wouldn’t affect his work. He’s a lot of fun to dive with or chat with over a meal as his work has taken him all over the globe, he is a typical behind the camera sort of person who isn’t used to the focus of attention being on him, so this afternoon will be fun! Of course I wanted to make him a camera card, but Christmas and school holidays are taking it’s toll on my mojo of late so I tracked down two that looked good on the internet that I could use as a starting point.

The first by Bronwyn who used a silhouette cameo to cut the design here, but as I don’t own one of those it wasn’t much good to me! The second by Valerie used the envelope punch board here and I do have an envelope punch board as it’s my new must use on every project tool!.

IMG_6115-2

The base size for the camera was 7.5cm x 10.5cm and the silver foil overlay was 10cm x 7cm. Each was scored on the board at 1 1/4″. The circles are 1 3/4″, 1 3/8″ & 1 1/4″. The side sentiment is from Baby Prints and the numbers from Morning Post Numbers. The flash area is a scrap of silver glimmer paper free cut. Of course The card stock colours aren’t showing up the best but they are basic black, smokey slate, whisper white and basic grey.

Of course I made a matching gift card holder using the Pop ‘n Cuts base scored at 3.5″, 5.5″ and 7.5″ and adhered with sticky strip A polaroid photo frame was made for the number 70 using the square framelits and a sentiment from Teeny Tiny Sentiments!

IMG_6114-2

A matching envelope was made for both using the envelope punch board – love that tool which at just $31.95 is a bargain given it’s versatility! Right off to pack a picnic and go and enjoy some fun in the sun with friends at the park to celebrate an amazing mans birthday.

Ninja card & voucher holder

IMG_5986-2

We had a 8yo boys birthday this morning to attend and the party invitation was written on Lego Ninjago paper – this was the card and present we gave in response (told you I was the queen of gift vouchers – but having a birthday this close to Christmas and 4 male siblings I was at a loss to chose an item as a gift when even his Mum couldn’t suggest something definite to get!).

IMG_5989-2

I love being able to make a matching greeting card and gift voucher holder. The voucher was made using the base of the Pop ‘n Cuts base. The eyes were from the owl punch with the eyebrows being double punches of the body part.

IMG_5990-2

The Ninja was made from the Top Note die & the Adorning accent edge lit in Real Red card stock on Daffodil delight. The greeting was from Itty Bitty Banners – but you could just leave it off if you preferred.

Edited to add: The voucher holder is scored by putting it on the Simply Scored with the flat side to the left edge of the board and score your piece at 3 1/2″, 5 1/2″, and 7 1/2″.

Gift card holders with Pop’ n Cuts die

I have been giving gift vouchers for presents for decades, it’s not that I don’t care enough about the recipient to chose them a present, but I have found for weddings, babies and similar occasions that people tend to double up on gifts. So I give them the gift of choice with a gift card, but I do try to present them nicely.

IMG_3260-2

The Pop ‘n Cuts card base is perfect for making quick gift card holders, simply cut it out with the die and from the flat end score it at 3.5″, 5.5″ and 7.5″. Using Sticky Strip join the middle section at the base of the fold and use the Word Window punch to cut out a slot to add in the card.

IMG_3261-2

The front is then embellished to suit the occasion and the curved tabs slot into the back slits and you are done. This one got embellished with some silver glimmer paper for bling (a little bit of this goes a LONG way) and Baby Prints.

IMG_3262-2

The next was made the same way and embellished with gold foil and an image from the Best of Christmas – loving that stamp set.

IMG_5955-2

Here’s another variation using some products from the Holiday catalogue the Wishing You stamp set and the Season of Style print stack of paper – such an economical way to buy the patterned paper!

IMG_5959-2

Sadly we have been told that the contract Karen Burniston had with Sizzix has ended so the Pop ‘n Cuts range will not be carried after the end of the current main catalogue *insert large sad face* so if you are wanting to get these Pop ‘n Cuts dies it is a case of ordering them sooner rather than later.

Reindeer Poop!

So I blogged a few posts back about using My Digital Studio (MDS) to create some treat bag toppers (you can see it here) and I thought it would be nice that for those of you who haven’t had time to download the free 30 day trial of MDS that you could just print out the toppers and attach them to the bags so you too could share the festive fun. So fingers crossed here’s a functioning link to a PDF that you can just print, cut and staple to your filled cello bags to create your own reindeer food (the link is just below the picture of the reindeer food).

IMG_5944-2Christmas Reindeer Food Bag Toppers

The cellophane bags I use are 5″ x 3″ and the food really does depend upon what is in my pantry – this year they contain rolled oats, pepitas, whole bran, canary seed, flax seed and glitter (other years they have has wheat, popcorn – basically anything birds will eat as that’s ultimately who ends up eating it in our garden – well except for the glitter that just sort of waters into the lawn eventually!).

Please note that I made this printable for your own personal use to share with your family or friends. These are not to be printed en masse or sold, as that is not in the spirit with which they were created. If I find that people are doing this then I will remove the links and not post similar things in the future.

Advent Calendar

So our cherub is completely obsessed with Lego and for the last two years has been the excited recipient of a City Lego Advent Calendar and a Star Wars Lego Advent Calendar. Personally as a parent I love them, no sugar, no fuss and at least they get something that they can play with for years afterwards, but what I wasn’t thrilled with was the fact that although he got some cool figurines the rest were just sort of little bits………so this year I thought I’d make my own calendar for him (I should note here that when he heard about this we had a protest as he “wanted” Lego – it was pointed out that he was exceedingly fortunate to be receiving anything so he should learn to be grateful – however after opening day 1 last week he was more than happy). What I did was get one larger Lego set and split it up into pieces/sections and with the addition of printing out the specific page(s) for each assembly and including that in the appropriate bag so far things are going well……..I was very fortunate and got the Lego set really cheap on EBay as it was brand new but had the box missing – perfect for what I wanted to do with it though.

IMG_5965-2

Anyway the bags were small plain brown bags that I decorated with some left over designer paper, punched pieces that I had laying around (I have a box of stamped and then not used bits and pieces) I was in use things up mode hence why it doesn’t all colour co-ordinate………..and several images are from retired stamp sets……

IMG_5966-2

The two main number sets I used are current though – the Morning Post Numbers and the Typeset Alphabet Bigz.

IMG_5975-2You can see how eclectic the colours and designs are – this wouldn’t get any artisan awards, but our cherub is loving it and is getting super excited about Christmas and is more than happy for Mum to do the Advent Calendar again next year as it’s way better than the store bought ones!!
