Colour revamp & new 2018 Stampin’ Up! colours

Ohh my goodness – so much excitement, Stampin’ Up! have done a huge colour re-vamp, the first time in 10 years and it looks amazing! Before you all lament over the loss of your favourite colours please consider this – do you still have the same colour clothes, tupperware or doona covers that you did in the 1980s? Times change and colour is a big part of creativity, decisions to change the colours were not made on a whim, they included sales data, global colour trends, focus groups, feedback from customers and demonstrators and a lot more………the awesome news is that overall we end up with 3 more colours than we currently have so we will have even more choice moving forward!

However before I share the new colours, lets pause a moment an mourn the loss (or not) of these colours that are leaving us:

Please don’t mourn Flirty Flamingo too long as it’s returning as a current colour! The other 4 retiring in-colours are leaving us for good though (so don’t forget to order your card stock & re-inkers for those colours sooner rather than later here as they will run out!).

There are still four beautiful colour families, each containing 10 colours, however you will see that Basic Black, Very Vanilla and Whisper White are no longer part of the neutrals group……they have migrated to form their own little enclave called the Basics colours. So the four new colour families look like this for June 1st onwards:

As you can see there are a few returning in colours from the past as well as brand new colours (how gorgeous is that new grape colour in the Brights family? – finally a decent proper purple colour YAY). There is also a lot more colour in the neutrals palette as it was found that for e.g. Christmas the base or neutral colours used were red/green/blue or for weddings blue so hence Night of Navy migrated across there and were joined by Mossy Meadow and the lovely new Merry Merlot. I’m not going to go through all the cloud families, but you get the idea that there has been a huge shake up of colour, but they still look amazing.

The 2018-2019 in-colours to complete the 53 colours are here and they are BRIGHT, but look totally amazing together as the main focus on a card or page or as an accent.

Now I know you are probably in need of a cuppa right now to help take all the new information, but just to completely tip you over the edge there has been the retirement of the archival inks in both black and gray. The new basic gray is exactly the same colour, but it will revert to being a water based ink. You cannot re-ink the old gray pad with the new waterbased re-inker or vice versa it simply won’t work, so please keep this in mine. However to soften the blow there is the very, very welcome return of StazOn Black ink to cover the niche left for waterproof black ink when watercoloring and or for techniques.

Still with me? The crux of it is that not all change is bad, I confess to only being a little sad about losing ONE of the retiring colours, but I found I liked several of the colours coming into our new families so that must have meant there were over 10 colours, or an entire colour family equivalent, that I just plain didn’t like – that’s crazy +20% of the SU! colours that I simply wasn’t in love with/haven’t been using. If you do have ANY of the retiring colours that you need re-inkers, card stock or accents for, please order them sooner rather than later as honestly I do not want you to be disappointed when stocks run out. You can shop online here for them 24/7.
