This is the last of the Octonaut characters I’ve done in punch art for the moment, if you would like me to do others, please leave me a comment and I’ll see what I can come up with for you! The is the sea otter from the series, Shellington. You can see the polar bear Captain Barnacles, the cat Kwazii and the penguin Peso by clicking on their names. This one was slightly harder in the respect that I had to double punch the Very Vanilla 1 3/8″ circle to get a more oval face piece and also hand cut with a scalpel (or sharp craft knife if you don’t have one) the slits of hair in the Soft Suede circle so that it ‘hangs’ over his face (you can sort of see the cuts on the top of the Soft Suede Circle as a guide).
The parts inked in diagonally were all discarded and the pieces were all stuck together using the Tombow multipurpose adhesive glue. The lines of his hat were freehanded using a co-ordinating Stampin’ Write marker pen.
It’s here! Yes it’s time to say goodbye to the retiring products from the 2014-2015 annual catalogue, but the good news is that whilst stocks last there are discounts of up to 50 percent off!
2015 Retirement List
Retiring products will only be available until 2 June, or while supplies last, so get them before they’re gone! The PDF list is here, don’t forget to use the current hostess code which can be found on the right hand side of the blog.
All of the My Digital Studio list, with all products discounted 30 % off retail can be seen here as well.
The third in the punch art series from the popular Octonauts cartoon is the penguin, Peso, you can see the polar bear, Captain Barnacles, and cat, Kwazii, here and here.
The white part of the face I hand cut, I tried finding a heart shape to trace over to make it easier, but they weren’t quite the right size, so I found it easier to freehand it. The parts with diagonal lines across were discarded whilst I created and everything was stuck together using the Tombow multipurpose adhesive, I have one more in this series of punch art characters, but if there are others you would like me to create, please leave me a comment.
So we are getting down to weeks now until the new Stampin’ Up! catalogue will be released on Wednesday June 3rd, which is super exciting, but with the excitement also comes some sadness as some items will retire and once they are gone, they are well, gone!
The first items that we know will be retiring are the 2013-2015 In Colors i.e. Strawberry Slush, Baked Brown Sugar, Coastal Cabana (*sniff*), Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding. Every year I have customers that get upset as they forget to order re-inkers or card stock of their favourite in colours that are retiring, even though every year I do try to give them lots of reminders – so here it is again – DON’T FORGET TO ORDER YOU’RE RE-INKERS!
The full retirement list with all of the stamp sets and accessories will be released on Tuesday 22nd of April – check back then to see it – some items that are not carrying over to the next catalogue will be discounted up to 50% off, everything from that date will be as stocks last, so I’d strongly suggest ordering sooner rather than later as some items run out in a matter of days……
After the polar bear punch art character, central to the Octonauts theme, next was the cat character, Kwazii. The basis for all of the characters is the super handy 1 3/4″ circle punch and the owl punch is simply indispensable when I am creating characters in punch art!
The eye detail was added with the white gel pen and as before the shaded areas are discarded and everything was pieced together with Tombow multipurpose adhesive. There are a few more characters on the show that I have already done directions for and will blog those soon, but if you have other characters you would like me to create and put directions up for please leave me a comment.
Easter sort of snuck up on me with one thing and another happening this year, but thought I would share what happened even though it is all over now. The first really exciting thing was that at the World’s Greatest Shave Day my Cherub did an Easter colouring competition for a local business and I dropped their entry in and guess what – they got a prize! So the chocolate started early in our house on the Wednesday prior to Easter………
That then lead to a request later that evening to make an Easter present for their teacher……..sure no problem (!) this was whilst I was part was through dinner preparations, but then I remembered I had a pre-cut Berry Basket die which when teamed up with some sequins (Cherub LOVES anything shiny), glue dots and a stapler and made a very useful little egg holder. The tag was done using the Ornate Tag Topper punch and a retired Easter rabbit stamp in Chocolate Chip (had to be chocolate ink because it’s Easter – apparently that makes sense when you are 8yo). The shredded paper in the basket is none other than the brown packing paper that comes with all of our orders. I rolled a single sheet of it and cut with the fringe scissors, perfect!
Then I got asked by my husband later that night if I could make some little Easter pressies for work colleagues…….sure why not………off to Pintrest. I found something gorgeous to CASE here, but the box directions just wouldn’t work for me so I had to re-adjust it all and I’m glad I persisted as they turned out lovely (well I thought so)!
I cut a strip of Pear Pizzazz 8″ x 2″ and scored along the 8″ side at 2 3/4″, 4″, 4 3/4″ and 6″. I then punched out the 1 1/4″ scallop circle punch between the 4 3/4″ and 6″ score lines to make an area for the bunny to sit in. Both ends of the strip were punched with the Scallop Tag Topper punch. The sentiments were stamped in Chocolate Chip and then one piece of sticky strip adhesive was used just above the 6″ score line to hold the container together. I embellished it with the Petite Petals punch and some Daffodil Delight seam binding tied with Bakers twine.
The last item I made were a couple of little treat bags for a friends’ children using the Cellophane bags and the Chalk Talk framelit with an idea that was shown to me by a friend online here and I decided to CASE.
I decided to use Coastal Cabana as the base and contrast it with Pink Pirouette. I used a retired smaller oval punch for the inside of the ears, I omitted the cheek sponging and added details with the 0.1 Project Life journalling pen and the white gel pen for the eye highlights.
I hope that you had a wonderful Easter break doing what you loved best.
I was asked a while ago to write down the directions for making the Octonaut Polar Bear Captain Barnacle from this post last year, since then a couple of the punches have changed, so I remade it and put the directions onto one of my 6″x6″ pages from my punch book.
Everything was pieced together with Tombow multipurpose adhesive and the shaded parts of the directions were discarded pieces that I cut off. I am hoping that you can understand the directions for making the polar bear (sorry about my scratchy handwriting) – if it isn’t clear let me know and I will try to do a video for you.
Sorry it took so long to share the directions – if you have other characters you would like me to create and put directions up for please leave me a comment.
