Undefined – Dalek

maxresdefault-1

For those of you who follow me on FaceBook, you would have seen my stamp carving exploits over the last few weeks. Recently I wanted to make a Dr Who themed card for someone, but honestly I did not have time for punch art, which is sad as I’ve seen some amazing punch art items on this theme! However I did have an Undefined stamp carving kit……..still in it’s box…………that we received whilst I was in the US last year …….opps!

Anyway moving on, I opened the box to find all of this:

133402S

Then I went onto the SU! You Tube site to remind me how to carve stamps:

I then went to Google and found some Dalek images………so many to chose from…………anyway I settled on one and then sat down to carve it…….sorry for the bad pictures, but it was late at night (isn’t that the best time for crafting?). For those of you that remember lino carving when you were younger – it’s just like that and you end up with lots of little bits of rubber confetti.

IMG_7313-2

The first stamped image of it looked like this:

IMG_4641-2

I decided the round gun thing was too big and some of the other bits needed cleaning up a little – the key thing to remember is once you have removed the rubber you can not put it back, so it’s best to remove it piece by piece.

The end result was a fairly rustic, but large stamp that resembled the intended image enough to be identifiable and that I teamed with MDS generated sentiments to make into cards for a few different occasions.

These cards were fun to make and I have decided that stamp carving can be highly addictive, so it’s just as well that you can purchase a separate refill kit as I have more ideas than time! I have made up some of these cards and listed them for sale on my MadeIt site with the proceeds going to the Cockburn Wetlands Centre.

Owl Punch Penguin Tutorial

This is the second Owl Punch tutorial card I made for my class attendees, you can see the first here, as I said in my first post many ideas have been CASEd and modified from years ago and I apologise to their original creators as I have not kept track of who created what first, some I have modified and / or created myself, but my objective here is to share them for your easy reference and I have not intended to infringe any copyright by doing this.

I prefer using Tombow glue for sticking all the pieces together, but please use whatever adhesive that you prefer to do this.

IMG_7238-2

These look adorable on cards, gift tags and on the top of cello treats. I hope these directions help someone – if you have questions please as me and I will endeavour to assist or if I have time make a video for you to follow.

Catalogue Launch Party Round Up!

Huge thank you to everyone that joined in the fun on Saturday to help celebrate the launch of the new Annual Catalogue. It’s always so exciting to have so many new and exciting products to play with, different things to play with, definitely Christmas in July!

The ladies who came along made 3 different projects in addition to having a goodie bag that contained among other things a survival pack and a raffle ticket for door prizes. The survival packs were assembled and embellished by a lovely friend and her daughter – so a big thank you to Miss Elizabeth for all her assistance, it was gratefully received (yes I stole your picture of it Sharon as I forgot to take any pictures of the bags or displays on the day!)

615130_10152462294326195_8042284270918823748_o-1-2

The first make and take was an in-color bookmark that had card stock, ink and ribbon samples of the new colours (my personal favourite is Blackberry Bliss), the base of the bookmark was done on MDS and CASEd from an idea I saw online by a demonstrator Andi P. in 2012. It uses the butterflies from Kinda Eclectic and Papillion Potpourri.

IMG_7365 (1)-2

The next was made using the beautiful Blackberry Bliss and the awesome Gorgeous Grunge, Everything Eleanor and the lovely new sentiment set And Many More – where all 23 of the sentiments fit inside the Word Window Punch – got to love that! This card was CASEd from Connie S. I saw her version last month and admired how simple and clean it was and how lovely the stamping off looked.

IMG_7372 (1)-2

The last card used the new Traveler stamp set and I did up two versions of it by just changing the orientation of the card, some ladies changed it again and orientated things diamond way. It’s a simple one colour card that uses the Arrows embossing folder that carried over from the last mini catalogue. The card was CASEd from Deb. V.

IMG_7371 (1)-2IMG_7370 (1)-2There was also a super yummy offering of refreshments baked by a lovely friend Sue, I am very fortunate to have met some wonderful people through Stampin’ Up! and I even had customers helping to pack up the tables and displays at the end of the evening. Huge thank you to everyone as without you all it wouldn’t have been the same.

Owl Punch Santa Tutorial

I was asked by my regular Crafternoon class attendees to do an Owl Builder Punch class recently, it was so popular I had another 5 people do it at the last Pizza & Papercraft night! When Stampin’ Up! first released this punch I did several classes and workshops on it to give people ideas, but with the advent of Pintrest, Google etc. I haven’t focused on it of late. I thought I would share the templates I made up for the class – I did the directions for each creation and there were several on a 6″x6″ piece of cardboard cut from the backing pieces of designer series paper, eventually when my craft room renovations are complete (read wall is rebuilt and rendered, but it is awaiting plaster and sanding before I can paint it) I will find my empty 6″ x 6″ album and store them all in there! Although for now I will share them semi regularly here on my blog. Many have been CASEd and modified from years ago and I apologise to their original creators as I have not kept track of who created what first, some I have modified and / or created myself, but my objective here is to share them for your easy reference and I have not intended to infringe any copyright by doing this.

I prefer using Tombow glue for sticking all the pieces together, but please use whatever adhesive that you prefer to do this. I also did this last month and the Itty Bitty Punch was still current – as this item is no longer available I would now use another owl eye punched from the silver glimmer paper (the larger of the two eye circles). The belt is cut from a strip of long thin black card stock and just put into the punch across the vest part to get the exact curve of the vest edges.

IMG_7232-2

You can see an example of how I used it here. I hope these directions help someone – if you have questions please as me and I will endeavour to assist or if I have time make a video for you to follow.

End of an Era

So Friday was the last day at work for me as our Programme finished. It was an outreach programme at a University, which I was fortunate enough to be one of the first students to be involved with it in its inception, 21 years later we closed the doors on it. The reasons are many and varied and it was done with a lot of sadness as we truly loved what we did and the students and educators that we got to work with all around this massive state were inspiring, but everything has its season and as this one closes, I am looking forward to the next.

Every year for Christmas my work colleague and I would bake or make treats for our co-workers and students – this time we made going away biscuits, a lot of biscuits………the list of people that we loved working with was over 150 long…….so I made up the bag toppers in MDS with one of our favourite quotes (yes we’re both science geeks) and my colleague baked most of the biscuits, whilst I did a token few.

IMG_4632-2

The recipients loved them (I can vouch for the fact they tasted really good), but also that we took the time to go and thank people individually, too often these days people are taken for granted which is sad.

I also went against the wishes of my work colleague who had been at the University for 14 years in the programme and did a leaving morning tea – yep I got in trouble for that one! However it gave me the opportunity to make an awesome card, also with MDS as the sentiment I wanted to use was retired and I no longer owned although I knew I could borrow it from a friend it was the wrong size, using MDS that’s not a problem. I also cheated and used some retired designer series paper that I loved and whilst I was at it used retired punches – in for a penny, in for a pound, although you could use the new star framelits that look fantastic to achieve the same result.

IMG_7308-2I put several sheets of paper as a mini booklet inside the card to allow enough space for everyone who wanted to, to sign the card and held them in place with Bakers Twine. You can get a free 30 day download of the My Digital Studio Programme here and the full version is just $24.95.

So now I am updating my resume and applying for new jobs, but it is an interesting and exciting time that will no doubt have ups and downs as we all adjust to the changes. In the mean time I have a list a zillion miles long of things to do that have been neglected over the last few years with the crazy hours we’ve been working.

Blended Bloom

Blendabilities Unleashed

So what are your favourite products from the new Annual Catalogue? I haven’t had the opportunity to play much with things yet as I have been time anaemic, but last month I did make this card with items I received free from Convention for a dear friends birthday.

This was my second flower colouring attempt with the Blendabilities and at the time I only had one colour and no colour lifter………but it turned out okay – what do you think? I particularly liked being able to colour match the rhinestone to the card stock in the project.

IMG_7223-2

There are lots of fantastic video tutorials on the Blendabilities now, like the one below which covers the basics.

The full range is shown on page 212 of the current catalogue, with everything except the last 6 colours available to order right now (the last 6 colours – Night of Navy, Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo, Crumb Cake & Smoky Slate will be available to order on August 1st).
