Mermaid for Ms Three

A friend whom I go walking with has a young niece whom on occasion comes on our walks with us and announced last week that she was turning three and was going to have a blue cake with candles…I don’t get to make many young children’s birthday cards, but as I went to a craft catch up with some friends this week I decided to make her a special card.

Of course it had to be blue with lots of sparkle as isn’t that what children like? I love the retired Large Numbers dies and used it to cut out the number from Balmy Blue glimmer paper and the “seaweed” was cut using the new Flower of Home dies that will release to customers in the January mini catalogue (got to love the perks of being a demonstrator!). I used a retired stamp set called Magical Day, I didn’t get the dies that co-ordinated with the stamps, but instead fussy cut the images – which was fine until I got to the teeny tiny seahorses – honestly – what was I thinking?

The background was a retired embossing folder called Seaside and the mermaids were coloured with our Blends and then I brushed over them with Wink of Stella, incase the glimmer paper didn’t already add enough sparkle to the card! My friend enabled the surprise by placing the card in the mailbox for her and asking her to get the mail…let’s just say it was well received, so I guess the pain of the fussy cutting was worth it!
