Square Double Display Card

I originally saw this card style whilst surfing the internet before Christmas, but it had no directions of how to make it. When I went to re-look for it two months later as I had a special occasion, my Nan’s 90th birthday, that I stumbled across directions of how to make it on two separate blogs (here and here) – so then I made a practise card, her card, another one and thought I’d do a video to share just how easy and addictive this card format really was!

IMG_8199-2

I used the designer series paper Gold Soiree (it was on sale at 25% off recently during the Weekly Deals – love those!), the hostess stamp set Bloom With Hope and coloured with Blendabilities for the flowers and sentiment and the new Something Borrowed embellishments with Calypso Coral chevron ribbon for the front adornment.

IMG_8203-2

The cutting and scoring measurements are below, but I’d recommend watching the video initially as it will probably save you some confusion and card stock that gets cut or stuck wrong!

Base whisper white card stock cut to 15cm x 30cm

With the base panel orientate it portrait and cut from 2.5cm to 12.5cm, lift the cutting blade and cut from 17.5cm to 27.5cm. Do this on the other side to get the same on both sides.

Orientate the base panel landscape and score the panel at 2.5cm from 0cm to 2.5cm, lift the scoring blade and score from 12.5am to 15cm i.e. you are scoring from the top and bottom of the card to the cut line that you made at 2.5 cm from the edge of the card. Repeat this scoring from the edge of the card to the cut lines top and bottom of the panel at 12.5cm, 17.5cm and 27.5cm.

Orientate the base panel landscape and score across the entire panel from 0-15cm at 5cm, 10cm, 20cm and 25cm.

Card stock sizes for the layering:

Whisper White: 2 pieces 15cm x 5cm, 1 piece 8.5cm x 8.5cm

Garden Green: 6 pieces 2cm x 4.5cm, 2 pieces 14.5cm x 4.5cm, 2 pieces 9.5cm x 4.5cm, 1 piece 9.5cm x 9.5cm.

Calypso Coral: 1 piece 9cm x 9cm, 2 pieces 9cm x 4cm

Designer Series Paper: 2 pieces 14cm x 4cm, 2 pieces 8.5cm x 3.5cm, 6 pieces 4cm x 1.5cm.

If you have any questions or if I have managed to confuse you – please let me know and I will try to rectify this!

Back to Basics Love

I made this card recently for our 13th wedding anniversary using the Back to Basics photopolymer stamp set, which I was fortunate enough to get for free at the Stampin’ Up! Inspire.Create.Share event last year. It was inspired from a commercial greeting card I saw in a shop and it was simple to make, but lots of fun so I made multiples and sent them off to all my downline for Valentines Day.

IMG_8035-2

I also made a short video of how to make the card and line up the letters easily time and time again as well as how I store my photopolymer stamps.

Stamps: Back to Basics Alphabet

Ink: Memento Black & Real Red

Card stock Whisper White & Real Red

Accessories: SNAIL, Tombow multipurpose adhesive glue, Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack

Monochrome Lotus Blossom

The lotus blossom stamp set is a lot of fun to play with and being photopolymer is easy to line up the three flower stamps that make up this beautiful bloom. I CASEd the card from Rebecca M. and changed it a bit (isn’t that always the way?) as I wanted to give it a bit more colour than she had done and also to use the new designer series paper.

IMG_7896-2

The brilliant thing about the designer series paper Stacked With Love is that not only is it a paper stack so costs just $11.95 for 48 sheets, or that there are 4 sheets of each design, but this stack as all one side in black and white and all of the other side with colours – so we all know I’m not a huge fan of pink, hearts and the like, but the black and white designs are gorgeous!

Here’s a close up of each card that I made using the Lotus Blossom stamps and the Best Year Ever ribbons, so one is Coastal Cabana

and the other is Calypso Coral

CASEing the Catalogue Best Day Ever

It was funny when I first looked at the Sale-a-bration Catalogue, the first stamp set, Best Day Ever, didn’t grab me at all…….then I looked at the sample and went hmm that’s cute, love that background splodge stamp.

IMG_7905-2

Best Day Ever free Sale-a-bration item

I slightly altered it from the catalogue sample, by using the new Ornate Tag Topper punch, using Coastal Cabana thick twine, sponging the edge of the tag to make it stand out a little more and a rhinestone for the flower centre.

What’s your favourite card sample in the new catalogues?

D is for Dog sympathy

It was very sad on Boxing Day when I learnt that a dear friends 18yo fur baby died, Gypsy was a gorgeous dog and my cherub loved playing ball at the park with her or just sitting and patting her. I don’t have the current dog stamp set and the normal sympathy just wasn’t what I wanted, so I resurrected a well loved, but retired set called D is for Dog and made this card for them.

IMG_7880-2

I fussy cut the dog and popped it up on Dimensionals to add a bit more interest to the card, her dog tags were green so that’s what I added with the smallest circle punch out from the Owl Punch.

Butterfly Basics fun!

I am having lots of fun this week whilst the temperatures soared to 44’C I retreated into a crafty coma in the air-conditioning and have been playing with the new stamps from the Occasions and Sale-a-bration catalogues. One of the new co-ordinating stamp sets and dies is Butterfly Basics (which if you buy as a bundle you save 15%) you can see them in action here:

I use the following “sandwich” for cutting out the intricate butterfly dies: magnetic platform – clear plate – dryer sheet – card stock – waxed paper – thinlit – clear plate. If you can get the unscented dryer sheets then I strongly recommend that as the scented ones which were the only ones I was able to attain absolutely stink – no idea why anyone would want their laundry smelling like that, but I guess some people do – fortunately we’re all different!

This collage was CASEd from Linda H. she did it as a single layer card and added a gold foil butterfly, but in layering this card I changed the colour scheme and I liked the look of the matching Blackberry Bliss card stock butterfly better.

IMG_7901-2

The next card I took the centre piece from a card I saw recently by Lynn P. I created a mask for the flower after I stamped it with a torn sticky note sheet and then stamped over it in the honeycomb stamp with Crumb Cake and sponges the edges to soften it as well. I coloured the flower with the Blender Pen and Wisteria Wonder, Pear Pizzazz and Elegant Eggplant inks. The background was done using the new Sale-a-bration specialty paper Irresistibly Yours and then sponging it with Wisteria Wonder, Elegant Eggplant and Blackberry Bliss – love this paper!

IMG_7897-2

You can see a short video on how to use the specialty paper here:

I then used the elements of the previous two cards and made this one:

IMG_7898-2I love the layered butterfly dies – I slightly offset them to give even more dimension and they were only adhered in the centre so as to let the wings ‘flutter’ more.

IMG_7899-2

If you would like to see and play with some of the new products why not get some friends together and host a party or come along to the Catalogue Launch Party on Saturday 17th and join us for some inky fun then!

Perfect Purple Peacock

I made this for a friend’s 40th birthday in November – her favourite colour is purple, the present was wrapped in some of my unending supply of brown paper that comes with all of my orders and adorned with the bow die……such a fast way to make presents look elegant.

IMG_7652-2

Can you spot the mistake in the colouring – I completely face palmed when I realised what I had done, just as well the recipient loves me………she’s been part of my life for 26 years now and is a very inspirational and forgiving person.IMG_7648-2

I loved the colour combination of the Wisteria Wonder Blendabilities and Elegant Eggplant, what colours would you like to see me colour this image in?
