OnStage Sydney keychain swap

So today I get to go and help set up the Stampin’ Up! OnStage event in Sydney – no doubt that will be a lot of fun. We have a dinner & training event tonight then a FULL day of stamping and fun tomorrow (which includes the new catalogue), however I can’t share too much with you about that for another week or so – one of the privileges of being a demonstrator – we get to see things and play with them before everyone else!

Anyways – each time I go to a national (or international) meeting with fellow Stampin’ Up! demonstrators I endeavour to make some swaps to share (I say endeavour as it has happened on a few occasions that I get none done and I might have a reputation for roping random people in last minute to help me finish them as well). What are swaps? They are stamped items e.g. card fronts or 3D items that are an excuse to go up to someone you don’t know and start a conversation, they are also a lovely memento of the event and source of ideas for your own stamping. This year I joined forces with my fellow stamper Sue to make our swaps as we were sort of time poor, but we wanted to do something to celebrate the #imbringingbirthdaysback movement which you can read more about here (if you would like to add your name to my birthday list please contact me).

So we thought small swap due to some people having lots of luggage to take home and functional – so scissor/bag charms it was! 100 flattened bottle caps, with printed 1″ circle inserts, a heart from the border punch attached and then covered in crystal effects.

To give this result:

and of course we couldn’t leave the back plain could we – it does all have to match after all!

IMG_8935-2

Then it was packaged in a matchbook type of thing featuring what is one of my favourite sentiments.

IMG_8933-2

I hope that you do get to enjoy the little things and celebrate today and if you are at a future Stampin’ Up! OnStage event come and find me as I may have some swaps to exchange/gift to you!

Weekly Deals Update

WeeklyDeals_Share-2_Apr0516_SP_UK

The Weekly Deals – which currently give you a 25% discount off select items each week will finish next week! This is a good and bad thing, the good news is that there are lots of items in the last week of the Weekly Deals (if you are ordering online please use hostess code UJUUFBYR ).

The ending of the Weekly Deals signals the arrival of the Retirement List – that’s right, the Retirement List will be released next Tuesday on the 19th of April. All of the items that will be leaving us from the Annual & Occasions Catalogues will be listed and be available on a “while stocks last” basis. Traditionally some of the items are at a discount, others are not, I would strongly advise you to order re-inkers for the retiring in-colours sooner rather than later.

Easter egg carrot

I had some last minute Easter gifts to make up & I really didn’t have the time to make the planned baskets etc. that I have in previous years as I coped another wasp sting on my forearm and well basically moving it hurt, a lot so I needed quick and simple. Then I remembered I have bought a pack of the polka dot cone cellophane bags (25 for $10.50)………crisis averted and I got to use my favourite Sale-a-bration stamp in the process!

IMG_8911-2

Here’s a close up of the tag – it honestly is just the image from Honeycomb Happiness stamped in StazOn onto water colour paper. A quick watercolour wash with the Aquapainter brush in Crushed Curry ink, punched with the ornate tag punch and topped with some Cucumber Crush dotted lace trim.

IMG_8912-2

The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny sentiments which is probably one of the most versatile stamp sets in the catalogue. The cone holds ~9 mini eggs so enough for a nice gift, but not enough that you’ll be on a sugar high for a week!

Painting blue ombre

The ombre technique is quite popular at the moment and I recently added this card to my “trio of blues” Crafternoon Tea class. It’s a very simple technique that just requires changing the colour gradient through the card.

IMG_8899 (1)-2

1. Ink the paintbrush with Bermuda Bay ink, using a Basic Black stampin’ write marker swipe off the ink covering the handle and stamp into the centre left of a piece of Whisper White card stock 9.8 x 8.5cm
2. Repeat for the colours above and below, Soft Sky, Tempting Turquoise, Pacific Point and Night of Navy
3. Add the corresponding inked brush strokes
4. Layer onto a piece of Night of Navy 10.3 x 9cm and then onto a base of thick Whisper White card
5. Add the sentiment in Night of Navy ink

Amazing Snow Place Penguin!

Yay I’m back blogging after a hiatus with my computers’ graphics card going to techno heaven and needing to be replaced – I’m sure you’ll all be glad of a break from my brown paper packing use posts as well (I wrote all of those in one day and scheduled them to appear over the following weeks with he plan to post other things in between, but that didn’t happen did it!).

I love the versatility that stamping allows you to do, by looking at images differently or using different techniques you can use the same stamp set for a myriad of different occasions or uses. When I first saw the Snow Place stamp set in the Holiday catalogue, I knew I had to buy it just because of the penguin – my Cherub loves penguins! However now Christmas has passed I still want to use the stamp set, so here’s what came about this week.IMG_8904 (1)-2
1. Stamp the penguin onto Whisper White card stock in Basic black ink and punch out with the 2 1/2″ punch
2. Colour the feet & beak with a Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Write marker
3. Layer onto a die cut circle of Melon Mambo card stock
4. Stamp sentiment and top hat in Melon Mambo ink onto scrap Whisper White card stock. Punch the sentiment out with the Washi punch and fussy cut the top hat
5. Add a piece of Melon/black Bakers twine and rhinestones to the hat
6. On a base of Melon Mambo, layer a piece of Basic Black card 14.3x10cm, then a piece of It’s My Party designer series paper 14.1×9.8cm.

Of course I also stamped the envelopes to add some interest to the post peoples day!

Upcycling Brown Paper Packaging Idea #7

I knew you were hanging out to see this use for the brown paper packaging that comes with the Stampin’ Up! orders – lining the bottom of my compost bin that sits on the kitchen counter. Very convenient as when it gets emptied into the big tumbling compost bin in the garden, the paper liner goes in and it all gets turned into lovely new soil conditioner for our vegetable garden.

IMG_8302-2

Occasionally when the tumbling bin gets too wet, I add a big wad of the brown paper to help re-balance things, works a treat.

Upcycling Brown Paper Packaging Idea #6

So here’s another use for the brown paper packaging that comes in our Stampin ‘Up! orders – wrapping for pass the parcel, as lets face it, it’s only going to be torn off in the melee so why use fancy bought paper for that?

IMG_7101

This was part of the 5 simultaneous pass the parcels that we had at the Ronald McDonald House Charity Fundraiser from last year – lots of laughs to be had that afternoon!

Upcycling Brown Paper Packaging Idea #5

Okay so this happens to be one of my personal favourite uses for the brown paper packaging that comes with our Stampin’ up! orders. A former downline contacted me at ~9.30pm one evening to ask if I had any brown paper…………ummm……….yes I always have heaps why? I’m sending my husband to come collect some as I need it for a book week costume……….okay I’ll leave it by the front door for him to collect as it’s going to be like 10pm by the time he gets here and I have work in the morning.

11920422_10152943143546627_1754826922_n

Is the result not TOTALLY stunning? Loved this book week costume of the Paper Bag Princess. Her daughter took out the school prize for her age category with the outfit, this was it at the end of the day, so a little worse for wear, but still holding together!

Do you have any great ideas for using this brown paper? If so leave me a comment below.

Upcycling Brown Paper Packaging Idea #4

So here’s another idea for what to do with the mountains of brown paper packaging that comes with our Stampin’ Up! orders – protect your work surfaces when you are painting. Yes a super obvious use, but very functional and this was the metal stand for my bee hive that my husband welded up for me and I used some left over spray paint to protect the welds from rusting.

IMG_7917-2

This of course would also be applicable for your craft desk, tables when children decide they want to colour or paint and similar.
